Filipinos are on for a global conquest in the film industry. We heard a lot of Filipinos winning international awards for their singing prowess, and we know a lot of Filipino animators behind our favorite Disney- and Pixar-produced movies, but do we know who among our local talents measured up with Hollywood celebrities on international films?

Lou Veloso, Madeleine Nicolas, and John Arcilla in The Bourne Legacy

Oscar-nominated Hollywood movie Bourne Legacy (2012) also included some of the finest Filipino actors during the scene shot in the Philippines. Three of them are Lou Veloso, captain and owner of the boat where the main characters took refuge at the end of the movie, Madeleine Nicolas, the landlady, and John Arcilla.

Alma Concepcion and Angel Aquino in Goodbye America

Goodbye America (1997) is an international movie with most of its scenes shot in the Subic Bay, a bay on the west coast of the island of Luzon in Zambales, Philippines. Alma Concepcion and Angel Aquino were just two of the many Filipinos who appeared in the film.

Bembol Roco and Kuh Ledesma in The Year of Living Dangerously

These two veteran Filipino performers were cast in a Peter Weir film that starred Holloywood A-lister Mel Gibson. Bembol Roco and singer Kuh Ledesma appeared in the 1983 film The Year of Living Dangerously.

Anne Curtis in Blood Ransom

Anne Curtis starred in a 2014 independent American film called Blood Ransom together with actor Alexander Dreymon. It is a thriller-vampire-romance film and was produced by Tectonic Films.

Joyce Jimenez in Vital Parts

Sexy actress Joyce Jimenez grabbed a lead role in the film Vital Parts (2001), together with actor Richard Grieco. The movie was based on the novel by Harold Robbins.

Victor Neri, Ermie Concepcion, and Rhency Padilla in Brokedown Palace

These three Filipino talents were cast in the 1999 film Brokedown Palace (1999), which starred Claire Danes and Kate Bickensale. Rhency Padilla was the pool boy in the movie while Victor Neri was the bellhop.

Tetchie Agbayani in The Story of the Dolls

Playboy model and Filipino actress Tetchie Agbayani starred in the 1984 movie The Story of the Dolls, together with Max Thayer. Tetchie was also seen in some international films like The Emerald Forest in 1985, The Money Pit in 1986, and Death Fight in the early nineties with actor Richard Norton.

Donita Rose in Legacy

VJ Donita Rose joined actor Rod Steiger in the 2001 film Legacy. She played the role of a young lady on a quest to find her father.

Cesar Montano in The Great Raid

The 2001 film The Great Raid featured some of the Hollywood’s greatest actors like Benjamin Bratt, James Franco, Joseph Fiennes, and Catherine Nielsen. It also includes one of our countries renowned action star, Cesar Montano.

Paolo Montalban in Cinderella

Paolo Montalban is Prince Christopher in Cinderella, a romantic-musical fantasy telefilm in 1997. Though he is not  a very distinguished actor in the local film industry, he has released a self-titled album in the country under Vicor Musica label in 2003.

Some of these actors portrayed shady roles while some landed lead roles in the movie. No matter what the characters they played are, these Filipino actors and actresses showed a world-class talent that inspires international directors to cast more and more Filipinos in their film over the years.
