Filipino Singers Who Have Won International Awards

Filipinos are music lovers. They love to sing and dance, and in every Pinoy occasion, singing and dancing are always a part of the celebration. So it is not a surprise to see Filipino singers standing in the international pedestal alongside international singers and even winning some of the international awards every performer in the world vies for.

We tried to list down all the Filipino singers who snatched the highly regarded international awards, but the list is too long we have to settle with ten of the best Filipino singers instead. Scroll down to know who made it to our list.

 

1. Lea Salonga

Lea Salonga is the first Filipino to have an international record label and one of the best-selling Filipino artists of all time. Abroad, she received plenty of awards like Best Actress in a Musical in 1990 Laurence Olivier Award, Best Lead Actress in a Musical during the 1991 Tony Award, Outstanding Actress in a Musical in the Drama Desk Award, and in Outer Critics Circle Award in the year 1991 as well. She was also named as a Disney legend by The Walt Disney Company in 2011.

2. Lani Misalucha

Asia’s nightingale and named the New Siren of the Strip since she moved to Las Vegas, Lani Misalucha was voted as the Best Singer in the 27th Annual Best of Las Vegas. She was also the Best Singer in Asia Song Festival in 1998.

3. Arnel Pineda

Lead singer of American band Journey, Arnel Pineda won many international awards such as the Palm Springs International Film Festival Audience Award, the Michael Moore Traverse City Film Festival Audience Award, and the 2014 PBS Independent Lens Audience Award.

4. Billy Crawford

Billy Crawford became the Best Newcomer of the Year in 2002 NRJ Music Awards held in France. On the same award-giving organization, he also won the International Male Artist of the Year in 2003.

5. Sarah Geronimo

Sarah Geronimo is named as the Best Asian Artist at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) in 2012, Best Southeast Asian Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2014, and the Best-Selling Filipino Artist at the 22nd World Music Awards. She was also nominated in the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards 2013 in the Favorite Asian Act category.

6. Charice Pempengco

Favorite Asian Act in Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award 2012, Charice Pempengco has earned numerous awards outside the country, which include the following: Most Requested Foreign Act in 2007 for Star King in South Korea; Most Memorable Moment of 2007 in The Ellen DeGeneres Show; Best Musical Performance of 2009 in The Oprah Winfrey Show; 21 Under 21: 4th Music’s Hottest Minors in 2010 Billboard USA; Best New Artist during the 2011 J-Wave Tokio Hot 100 Awards in Japan; and Womanity Award Winner in the Female Network’s Womanity Awards.

7. Kyla

R & B Princess Kyla won the Southeast Asian Viewers Choice award during the MTV Video Music Awards in 2011.

8. Regine Velasquez

Asia’s songbird Regine Velasquez is Philippines’s Best-Selling Artist of All Time according to Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI). She is the winner of 1989 Asia Pacific Singing Contest in Hong Kong, and she also bagged the Best Song Performance in the said competition.

In 1993, she won the gold medal in Shanghai Music Festival, and in 2003, she was awarded the Best Musical Special Award in Asian Television Awards. In 2002 and 2003, she became Asia’s Favorite Artist in MTV Asia Awards and was also the awardee for the Best Music Video in 2000 MTV Asia Awards.

9. Rachelle Ann Go

Rachelle Ann Go has a remarkable collection of international awards. She is the Silver Medalist in 2005 Astana Song Festival and the Silver Medalist in Shanghai Song Festival 2005.

She won the Best Featured Actress in a New Production of a Musical Award during the 2014 BroadwayWorld UK / West End Awards, and she was also the Best Supporting Actress in a Musical during the 15th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards.

10. Jonalyn Viray

Jonalyn Viray’s achievements include the Female Solo Industry Award in Hollywood’s World Championships of Performing Arts and Champion for Female Vocal Solo Broadway Category in WCOPA 2006.
