International Emmys Recognizes Filipino Talents

Sta. Maria is nominated in the Best Actress category at the International Emmys for her excellent performance in the 2015 remake of Pangako Sa ‘Yo. Other nominees for the same category are Judi Dench ( Roald Dahl’s Esio Trot, UK), Grazi Massafera (Verdades Secretas, Brazil), and Christiane Paul (Unterm Radar, Germany).

Meanwhile, Bridges of Love is a story about two brothers, Gael (Jericho Rosales) and Carlos (Paulo Avelino),  who were impelled by their promise to each other but separated by an unfortunate tragedy and bridged together by love represented by the same woman—Mia (Maja Salvador), Gael’s greatest love and the one who healed Carlos’s broken heart. The said soap opera clinched a nomination in the Best Telenovela category and will be competing against the entries from Brazil (Rules of the Game, Hidden Truths) and Canada (30 Vies).

Bridges of Love

Bridges of Love was the first telenovela from the Philippines to be shown in the Latin America, mainly in Peru through Panamericana, while Pangako Sa ‘Yo is currently airing in a Peruvian TV Channel. Both series were already successfully aired in various countries in Asia and Africa, including Cambodia, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Sta. Maria and Bridges of Love are the lone International Emmys nominees from the Philippines, among the 40 nominees from 15 countries competing for the over 10 categories this year.

International Emmy Awards

It was only last year when former ABS-CBN head honcho Charo Santos-Concho was chosen to serve as the Gala Chair during the 43rd International Emmy® Awards. She’s the first Filipino to participate in the prestigious affair.

Other ABS-CBN productions and talents who previously received International Emmy® Awards nominations are the drama Kahit Isang Saglit (Best Telenovela) and actress Angel Locsin for her role in Lobo (Best Actress) in 2009; Dahil May Isang Ikaw (Best Telenovela) and Sid Lucero in Dahil May Isang Ikaw (Best Actor) in 2010; and Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Impostor (Best Telenovela) in 2011.

The 44th International Emmy Awards will take place at Hilton New York Hotel on November 21 and will be hosted by Alan Cumming.
