Alienette Coldfire Finishes 3rd in ‘France Has Got Incredible Talent’
Having a physical disability is never a hindrance to success if you persevere. This quote is once again proven true by Alienette Coldfire.
Coldfire, or Katchry Golbin in real life, is the blind Filipino singer who wowed the audience and the panels for her impressive song renditions on France Has Got Incredible Talent.
On the final night of the competition, the 25-year-old singer posted a message on Facebook, saying, “Almost ready for the finals! I’ll be singing for those who love in the name of love! Lord, help me do this.”
How Alienette Coldfire Won the Hearts of Many
For her final performance, Alienette Coldfire sang Jacques Brel’s “Quand on n’a que l’amour,” which earned her the third spot on the talent show.
Alienette Coldfire was born blind and grew up in Ilo-ilo, Philippines. But her visual impairment did not hinder her from doing what she loves most—singing. According to Coldfire, she started singing and joining competitions at age 5. Singing helped her develop her self-esteem. When she was 17, she even auditioned for Pinoy Idol, the Philippine version of American Idol where she met award-winning singer/composer Ogie Alcasid as one of the judges. Unfortunately, she didn’t make it to the finals of the competition.
Many times, the Ilonggo singer joined and failed in singing competitions, but she didn’t give up. It was in 2014 when a video of Alienette at a mall singing beautifully Mariah Carey‘s version of “I’ll Be There” went viral on the Internet.
Alienette Coldfire finally got her big break when someone discovered her video on YouTube singing in French—this was that got her an invite to France Has Got Incredible Talent. Her only problem was she had no French visa. According to Ogie Alcasid in an interview with the Manila Bulletin, upon learning of the problem from Alienette’s mother, he immediately contacted Filipino-French actress-model Solenn Heussaff, who then called her father and helped.
And she did not disappoint! All four of the show’s judges, Helena Segara, Gilbert Rozon, Eric Antoine, and Kamel Ouali, showed admiration to her performance and gave her a standing ovation. She advanced to the finals of La France a un incroyable talent and eventually won third place.
In an interview with Purepeople.com, Alienette said in French,
“I sing since the age of 5 years. The music is my life. I often tell my friends that I sing for a living and I live to sing. At home, it is said that the blind are unable to do great things. They are wrong. There is always another way to live like everyone else.”
What makes her amazing apart from her splendid vocals is she speaks French fluently despite being not a native of the country.
On France Has Got Incredible Talent, the blind Filipina singer told the judges that she learned the French language three years ago through music. According to her, the classic “La Vie en Rose” is the first French song she learned and it inspired her to learn the language.
On her audition for the popular reality TV show, she sang “I Dreamed a Dream” from the musical Les Miserables. Her rendition of the song blew the judges away and earned her a standing ovation from both the audience and the judges. Her angelic voice and inspiring story made the audience and even judge Helena Segara shed some tears.
After the show, Alienette Coldfire sent her gratitude to her supporters through Facebook. She said in a post:
“A big thank you to all those who supported me in the beginning of this extraordinary adventure.
I’m counting on your presence to accompany me at the next step. I need you to help me achieve this dream fantastic! Thanks to you, I saw a waking dream!! I love you,” she posted
