They Came to Slay: ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ Kids Catch Rebel Wilson’s and Snoop Dog’s Attention
Beyoncé is one of a kind. Her voice and stage presence is what makes her pop’s greatest superstar. There really isn’t anyone who can be on a par with Beyoncé when it comes to fiery talent—but these three young Filipino boys beg to differ.
The “Tawag ng Tanghalan” trio are going viral on social media for all the right reasons. They absolutely bring down the house with an outstanding rendition of Beyoncé’s hit “Listen.”
‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ Boys Nail Beyonce’s ‘Listen’ on Live TV
Mackie Empuerto, Francis Concepcion, and Kiefer Sanchez are finalists on “Tawag ng Tanghalan,” a segment in the noontime variety show Showtime. The three were then invited to comedian Vice Ganda‘s late-night Sunday comedy show Gandang Gabi, Vice! to flaunt their talents. They chose to sing Beyoncé’s “Listen,” a diva-worthy tune featured in the film Dreamgirls.
To say that the three young boys impressed audiences that day would be an understatement. Judging by the look on the audience’s faces, they managed to blow everyone away! But it wasn’t until a Twitter user uploaded the clip that the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” boys got international recognition.
Rebel Wilson, Snoop Dogg, and Laverne Cox share Filipino trio’s Beyoncé impression
A Twitter user named Joshua Henry Jenkins first shared a snippet of the performance on his account. The video quickly went viral, attracting the attention of Pitch Perfect actress Rebel Wilson. The Aussie actress retweeted the clip for her 2 million Twitter followers to see.
Though the spot-on rendition of the tune was performed last month, it is only becoming viral now. It did not take too long for other celebrities to jump on the bandwagon as well. Rapper Snoop Dogg and Orange Is the New Black actress Laverne Cox didn’t think twice about sharing the video and letting the world hear the trio’s singing voices.
