The Cosplay Queen, Alodia Gosiengfiao
Alodia Almira Arraiza Gosiengfiao, also known as Alodia Gosiengfiao, is Philippines’ Cosplay Goddess. As a big fan of art, gadgets, video games, fashion and photography, Alodia portrays famous anime and video game characters by wearing a costume dress or through what is commonly known as, “Cosplaying.”
Alodia completed Bachelor of Fine Arts in Information Design at the Ateneo de Manila University in the year 2009. From then on, she worked on various art commissions for international clients, where she illustrated digital and traditional artworks.
It was through the internet fan forum called Anime Club where Alodia became actively involved in cosplay. Here, she contacted different anime and video game enthusiasts and joined competitions within the locality. Her very first cosplayed character was the Priestess from the popular online game, Ragnarok Online.
In 2003, Alodia competed in the C3 Convention and portrayed Gun Mage Rikku of Final Fantasy X-2, in which she won 3rd place. From then on, she began getting attention. She was featured on the cover of a Manga magazine in the Philippines, Culture Crash Magazine. Since then, Alodia portrayed countless characters from video games, anime and movies, such as G.I. Joe, K-On!, Witchblade, Final Fantasy X-2 and Paradise Kiss.
As a multi-awarded cosplayer, Gosiengfiao has been invited to many international cosplay events and conventions, where she appeared as performer, judge or a participant. Together with her younger sister, Ashley Gosiengfiao, they represented the Philippines in the Anime Festival Asia Regional Cosplay Championship, where they cosplayed Shiori Tsuzuki and Masane Amaha from Witchblade.
In 2010, the Filipina cosplayer attended the annual San Diego Comic-Con, where she landed a big role. She worked with a 5-man team, documenting the happenings at the Comic-Con. Since Stan Lee was part of the team, she was introduced to the vice president and founder of Legendary Pictures, Alex Garcia and Thomas Tull and talked about the upcoming fantasy film, Warcraft.
After the meeting, Gosiengfiao was featured on Kotaku, a popular US-based website. More opportunities were given to her as Blizzard Entertainment, maker of Warcraft, offered her an endorsement deal for their new game, Star Craft 2.
Alodia’s achievements in the world of cosplay made her famous in her homeland and some countries all over the world. The Filipina cosplayer is now among the ambassadors and VJs of Animax-Asia. She appeared in countless newspapers, magazines and TV shows as well.
After being hailed as the Philippines’ Cosplay Queen, Gosiengfiao is set to conquer another world, the music industry. She was handpicked by a Japanese music producer to lead a pop girl group in Japan called the Super Dolls.
