If you have a talent, it is best that you share it. Don’t hide it under a bushel. It is also no longer enough to just be aware of it or consider it as a hobby. You can actually make a career out of the things you are good at.
However, you won’t be able to do this if you will just sit idly by without doing anything. You have to hone your talent and promote yourself, so people will know what you are capable of.
Below are just five of the ways you can let everyone know of what you can do:

Of the more than 107.6 million people in the Philippines as of December last year, above 44.2 million are Internet users with 29,890,000 of them using Facebook as of December 2012. If you will consider this in your campaign to promote yourself and your talents, then you can certainly assume that using social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest and even, LinkedIn, among others could be your ticket to fame.
- Join Contests or Reality TV Shows
Whether your talent is singing, dancing, acting or cooking, there are already a lot of contests and even reality TV shows you could join to let the whole country know what you can do. Aside from the largely popular Pinoy Big Brother, which started in 2005, there was also the Star Circle Quest and Starstruck, which was broadcast initially in 2004 and 2003, respectively. Other such shows include Pilipinas Got Talent, The Voice Philippines, Talentadong Pinoy, Junior Masterchef Philippines, Shall We Dance and U Can Dance.
Other such competitions where you can showcase your talents include beauty pageants, band competitions, photo contests on social media, citywide cook-offs or even city-wide or nationwide singing and dancing competitions, which could be your entry to the big leagues even if they are not aired on television.
- Participate in Trade Shows, Band Showdowns or Other Such Events
Aside from competitions, there are other events where you can show off your talents. If you are into coordinating weddings or debuts, making floral arrangements or handicrafts or cooking up delicious delicacies, you can join in trade shows where you can sell your services or products. If you also have a band, then there are band showdowns in schools, barangays, towns and cities that you could be part of.
Always keep an eye out for these kinds of activities, as they are very valuable when it comes to promoting yourself and your skills to a whole lot of other people other than your friends and family. Just be ready with other marketing materials such as business cards, brochures or pamphlets, which are great to give out during these events.

As mentioned above, a lot of Filipinos are Internet users. So, you will have a better chance of exposing yourself and your talents if you also have your own website on top of your social media accounts.
If you do not have the budget to get your own domain, there are a number of popular blogging platforms online that you can use. You can either use Blogspot or WordPress, both of which are quite user-friendly. Because they already have a lot of website templates you can choose from, you will have your own website up and running in no time at all.
Once you have your own website, link it to all your social media accounts. This is the easiest way for you to reach a whole lot of audience once you post updates or photos of your activities on your site.
- Provide Free Service (At First)
If you are still starting out in showcasing your talents, it won’t hurt if you will provide service for free at first. Volunteer your services on Facebook or Twitter.
You can take photos of a wedding or host a party or a sing at a reception for free. This is one of the best ways to spread your name via word of mouth. In time, when a lot of people already know you, it will already be a lot easier to charge people for the things you can do for them.
Promoting yourself is very important if you wish to make a career out of your talent or talents. People nowadays really appreciate a great mix of guts, effort and talent all thrown in together.
